After getting Linux Mint up and running I decided to see if I could remotely access my office applications from home. We’ve got a remote portal set up that allows Citrix access to a variety of applications (including Remote Desktop, which is very handy) so that we can work from home. After installing the Linux Citrix ICA client, I was getting the following error message.

SSL Error 61 : You have not chosen to trust the issuer of the server’s security certificate.

In particular, the Citrix client was complaining about Digicert’s Global CA certificate. After doing some research and installing a variety of certificates, I finally found the right one. This is a pretty simple issue to fix, but if you’re like me and new to Linux, it took a while, so I thought I’d share this with you.

I’ve linked to the client and certificate below. All you need to do (assuming you’ve already installed the client) is to save the certificate into your cert directory. For me, this was /home/brandon/CitrixICA/linxx86/keystore/certs/ . After that, try launching the Citrix client and assuming that’s the right certificate for you, it should work just fine. If it’s not the right certificate, I’d recommend googling for the exact certificate name Citrix says you’re missing.

Hope that helps someone!

New theme (An Ordinary Theme v2.3 courtesy of Fabian Schmid). Much easier on the eyes, and I like how the archives and such are drop-down menus which makes the post area larger and more clean. The photos are NYC-centric, so I’ll do my best to get those replaced with Chicago photos as soon as possible.

Done! Photos are updated, and links to the photographers flickr pages are in the footer. A big thank you to the photographers for sharing their work.

For a long time I purposely avoided Starbucks. It was one of those things that everyone did, and I never really understood, so I just left it alone. After doing some serious early morning traveling as of late, I stopped at a Starbucks in O’Hare for some coffee. Thus began my downward spiral. I ordered a Vanilla Latte, and at first I thought “Hrm, this is kind of good.” Then about half-way into it that changed to “damn, this is really good.” After I finished it, I started thinking “well, one more wouldn’t hurt..”. I held off, obviously not needing 40 oz’s of coffee before sitting on a plane, but lately I’ve been going more often. I’ve probably ordered about 5 more in the last 10 days. While it’s far from a full-blown crack-addict situation, I do admit the frequency is beginning to be a bit alarming. Maybe I need to head this off before it becomes a serious habit.

Maybe I’ll quit tomorrow.. or the next day. I can stop whenever… No, really.. I can.

Coming soon!
My 64-bit Vista results from my laptop upgrade, and my review of Mint Linux 7 RC1 (Gloria).

**Warning: geek post**

I swore I had posted last November when I upgraded from XP to Vista for the first time, but I couldn’t find anything.. guess I didn’t write about it. Anyway, I’ve really enjoyed Vista and I recently went into a laptop upgrade kick as I was running out of disk space. The laptop came with an 80GB drive (small, but I was trying to save money) so I ordered a 320GB replacement drive and 2 2GB memory sticks. While doing research I found out that the 32-bit version of Vista only supports a max of 3.5GB of memory, which would leave me missing 500MB out of the 4GB I purchased. The 64-bit Vista version obviously supports much more. Apparently all Intel Core 2 Duo’s are 64-bit processors. Big news to me, as I’ve had a core 2 duo this whole time! So, it’s laptop rebuild time! I ordered a 1TB usb drive so I’ll be imaging the laptop to that and then rebuilding from scratch with the 64-bit OS. I’m interested to see how big of an improvement this is over x86 Vista, so I’m posting some current CINEBENCH benchmark results, and I’ll update later this week with the new (and hopefully much improved benchmarks) when the rebuild is complete.
